MISS. CODE ANN. Section 25-9-107 (c) (i) defines staff of the legislative branch of government as “nonstate service.” As such, PEER staff are not under the purview of the State Personnel Board.
PEER employs a staff from diverse educational backgrounds, such as accounting, business administration, communication, criminal justice, economics, education, English, health, law, mathematics, philosophy, political science, psychology, public policy and administration, social work, and related fields. Emphasis is placed on obtaining professional staff possessing advanced degrees—i.e., at least a master’s degree—and/or professional certification and who are skilled in research methods and communication.
The PEER Committee maintains its own personnel administration system and hires from open and competitive recruitment. When PEER has a job opening, a position announcement will be posted on its website and interested individuals may complete an application. PEER does not accept the State Personnel Board’s employment application.
